The main characters in the book are Anjum/Aftab, Zainab, S. Tilottama, Saddam and others. This book is so intense and a little bit eye opener. For me its a must read for all. The book revolves around lives of above mentioned characters and how they are linked together is what makes the writing great. Anjum/Aftab is a Eunuch (hijara) and one of the main characters in the book. You will get to know about the struggles of hijaras, what they go through in their lives, how they feel and work to survive in the society. I have a soft corner for hijaras so i was just moved and a little heartbroken to read all about Anjum and this was my favourite character in the book. Zainab was a abandoned child found by anjum on a visit to masjid whom she adopted. The relationship between them how she grew up as a person is to read about. Now the other main character S. Tilottama is also one of the strong personalities with a complicated life, her relationship with three men Musa, Nagaraj, Biplab is worth a read. You will read about Old Delhi, Kashmir and other middle parts of India. The lives of people and characters in these places and how their lives are affected.
