ENTERTAINMENT QUOTIENT: 4/5

Overall Rating: 4/5

Blurb- Milk and Honey is a collection of poetry and prose about survival. About the experience of violence, abuse, love, loss, and femininity. The book is divided into four chapters, and each chapter serves a different purpose.

My Take on the Book- I read this book for a readathon challenge. Before this readathon I had never tried Poetry so this was my first and after reading this book I’m sure its not the last. Now I’ll be reading more poetry that’s for sure. Talking about Milk & Honey the book was well written. The words were minimal but they were strong and meaningful. The first chapter Violence was a little disturbing for me and it was supposed to be that way so the writer did justice here with her writing. Next was abuse, this word in itself is painful but the prose and poetry were so intense and beautiful which made me want to read further. Then comes love and loss, this particular part of the poetry was my favourite. After all the violence and abuse we all need love & this book did the same, provided with all the love in a manner of poetry. Now last but not the least the way Kaur had written about feminism in her poetry was marvellous. All in all this book was full of emotions from being disturbing to being motivated. I would have never picked up a poetry if it was not for a readathon. And I’m glad that I opted this book for a reading challenge because this motivated me to read more poetry.
