The main characters in the book are Manjiri and Manu. Manu and manjiri are good friends. Manu here is the one who leaves his job as an investment banker and decides to live on an island to find peace whereas manjiri is into adventure sports. The story starts when manjiri decides to find manu and know why he left his job and came to an isolated island. When they both finally meet they remember their earlier days as friends and manjiri see a huge change in his friend, his take towards faith, peace, belief, trust in God which lead to a debate between them and manu challenges manjiri to spend some time in a structure of mortar and pestle called ‘god’s palace’ (a room similar to jail). The plot of this short story was interesting yet it somehow didn’t fulfill my expectations. I didn’t like the way manu forced her to stay in that room where she didn’t feel comfortable at some point. The best part was in this short was when she writes in her diary. What she writes and how she deal with all this ‘faith’ related challenges. How she accepted and overcame her disturbing memories of childhood is what you will read and yes those memories will be triggering for the reader as well. About the characters, I liked manjiri as how she overcame her fears her take towards faith and almighty in the end. The end was predictable from the start and it was the sole purpose of the whole story so I was OK with it. Writing style was engaging at the end but slow in the start. All in all it was an OK read for me it kept me thinking at the end, which these type of stories intend to do. I would suggest you to give it a try.
