The plot of “Plum Pudding Bride” sets rolling when Peter who has been tongue tied for years, when it comes to proposing his beloved Patience, decides to propose her. While he was sure that Patience is aware of his attraction, the heroine herself comes up with a set of mail-order advertisements among which she selects one in her quest for an adventurous life. A heartbroken Peter approaches Kitty, Patience’s sister to derive a plan to woo Patience. The story which unfolds later is an enchanting, entertaining, and humorous one.

Anne Garboczi’s narration is of a quirky murky style. The desperation of Peter and subsequent efforts to bring Patience to line surely tickle our funny bones. The ideas set forth by Kitty, are funny and silly.  Nevertheless, lack of novelty comes as a major drawback of the story. Similar storylines have been overworked throughout the years. Hence it was quite easy to predict what will happen next. With a little more effort into the editing, “Plum Pudding Bride” would have made its position strong in the YA romance category.

The character craft is the major highlight of the book. The idiosyncrasies of each character is what adds shine to the whole book. The pace of the story is steady yet slow. The book is custom made for those who are looking forward to an easy breezy read. The climax turned out to be a major turn off since it was well expected, lacked novelty and was cliché.

Thus overall, for this entertaining funny tale of Peter, Patience and Kitty, and I give “Plum Pudding Bride” 3 stars.
